Welcome Back to School!
Hellooooooo Lawrence Community!
As summer officially winds down, we want to send a little greeting from the PTO. We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and we’re excited to see familiar and new faces on the playground and in the hallways very soon.
Well, those blissful summer days have passed us by and now you might even find yourself staring into a backpack that is still stuffed to the gills with last year’s student portfolio. If that’s the case, take a deep breath, forget about that backpack for a moment and instead look forward to the year ahead! Take a peek at the dates listed below– there are already fun things scheduled that we hope you can attend.Dates to Note:
Coffee & Kleenex: September 5th & 6th (8am) in the Playground off Francis Street for all parents and caregivers. In case of inclement weather we will meet in the Cafeteria. The 9/6 Coffee & Kleenex event is being kindly hosted by our friends at the BEF (Brookline Education Foundation)- BEF Board Members and Lawrence Parents, Rachel Goldman, Cathleen Schoen, and Fergus O-Donoghue.
Room Parent Orientation: September 10th (8:10am in the Cafeteria) & 12th (7pm- location TBD)
New Family Welcome: September 13th (8am) in the Library for an orientation for all new Lawrence Families.
Fall Picnic: September 19th (5:30-7:30pm) in the Playground for all families. Rain date 9/23.
PTO Meeting & Principal’s Coffee: September 24th (8am) in the Library for all parents and caregivers to meet the PTO Board & Lawrence School Principals.
If you’re new to the Lawrence School, then please try to make it to our Coffee and Kleenex events the first couple mornings of school. It’s a nice time to meet other parents while you try to wipe your eyes (or jump for joy- no judgment here) as those little ones march off to their first day of school.
Being a Room Parent is a wonderful way to get to know your student’s teacher and to be a liaison between the teacher and other parents. Room parents also keep their classroom informed of upcoming important events and dates and help build and grow their classroom communities. It’s definitely a great intro to being a part of the school community. Room Parent volunteer positions for ALL classrooms/grades are still needed! No experience necessary! Anyone can be a Room Parent (even full-time working parents) – we look for 2-3 Room Parents per classroom to ensure the workload is shared and light! Room Parent Orientations are listed above and returning, new and prospective Room Parents are all welcomed and encouraged to attend one session! These brief (30-45 minute) sessions will give a general overview of the role, the responsibilities and how the year normally progresses. Please reach out to the Room Parent co-coordinators (Bridget Muelbert / email@example.com or 603.553.1102) and/or Jen Tulipani (firstname.lastname@example.org) to sign up, get more information, or if you have any questions regarding the role! If your Membership Toolkit account is active you can click on the link below to sign up directly: https://lawrenceschoolpto.membershiptoolkit.com/volunteer/45907
The Fall Picnic is a great way to celebrate the start of the school year! We will have pizza, Del’s Lemonade, Zack’s Ice Cream truck and a bake sale—all to benefit the Lawrence PTO. We are in need of volunteers to help sell food and t-shirts, as well as to help with set up and clean up. Please donate an hour of your time to make this event a success! In addition, we need baked goods for the bake sale (store-bought or home-made, no nuts please). Click HERE to give your time or a donate a yummy treat. Volunteering is a great way to get to know other people in the school! We look forward to seeing you there! Thanks in advance. Any questions, please feel free to email the organizers: Amy Derris (email@example.com) and Marianna Drootin (firstname.lastname@example.org).
One final thing to note is that Monica Crowley, our Principal, sent out a Family Communication Letter, PTO Calendar and PTO Summer Mailing last week (attached here). And while you “oooh” and “aaah” over how amazing the Calendar & Summer Mailing look, thank your lucky stars that we have crazy-talented parents like Jin Suk and Bridget Muelbert who helped to put those together for our visual delight. PS- the PTO Summer Mailing has important information in it re: Membership Toolkit… which was previously known as MySchoolAnywhere. Families new to Lawrence will need to register with Membership Toolkit to login to the website (which is a Directory and so much more) and current families can use their old password from last year for MSA… they should work with Membership Toolkit. Good luck!
Well, we don’t want to keep you from that last glimpse of a summer sunset (or more likely scrambling to locate that class supply list mailed months ago)… so get back to it and we’ll see you before too long. Looking forward to a great year ahead!
