PTO Weekly Update
Hello Lawrence Community!
We hope the week is treating you right so far… there is a lot going on these days as we get closer to winter break! An Early Release Movie Day TODAY… Cradles to Crayons collection boxes in the lobby this week… PTO Play & Band Try Outs this Thursday… Lawrence Logowear for sale… and Gingerbread House Making this Friday (insert the exploding-head emoji here).
It’s going to be ok… take a deep breath and let’s dig into the details. First things first- Today, Wednesday, Dec. 11th is an Early Release day for K-12, so remember to pick up your child at 12:40PM pronto (don’t be that parent the office has to call…). If they’re staying for the Early Release Movie… then they’re in for a treat with Detective Pikachu! Please pick up your child promptly at 2:30PM from the 2nd floor Auditorium. And if you happen to have 90 minutes of your time to give, please volunteer for the Early Release Movie Day right HERE.
A reminder that the amazing 2nd grade has invited the WHOLE LAWRENCE COMMUNITY to participate in a gently used clothing drive for Cradles to Crayons. Be a part of this effort and make a difference for local children in need- donate this week and next (12/9-20). You will find boxes outside of 2nd grade classrooms or tall ones in the lobby. See below for more information on what to donate. The PTO School Play will be holding low stress “auditions” on Thursday, December 12th from 7-9PM in the Lawrence Auditorium. The audition involves a group read-through of an original script written by Lawrence parents.Join the longstanding Lawrence School tradition of parents and teachers coming together to write, act and produce an original piece! Everyone who wants to perform gets to be in the play! For more information contact Jacob Buckley-Fortin at firstname.lastname@example.org. Are you a musician interested in joining the PTO play band? We’d love to have you! Please contact email@example.com for more info.
Looking for the perfect gift or ready to wear some school pride? Lawrence Logowear IS BACK! On Sale next week on December 12 & 13 (Thursday & Friday). Shop for gear in the front lobby before and after school. Cash, check & credit card accepted. See the flyer for pictures and prices! Favorite beanies, hoodies, caps and t-shirts are back. Your purchase of logowear supports the Lawrence PTO.
It’s that cozy time of year! The perfect time to make and decorate your own gingerbread house. Come with friends and family on Friday, December 13th @ 1:40PM in the Cafeteria. Make the gingerbread house of your dreams! A $5 donation will supply you with the bricks (graham crackers), mortar (frosting) & piles of decorative embellishments! Pay at the door. Sponsored and supervised by the Lawrence Class of 2020. Students in all grades are welcome, but students in grades K-2 must be accompanied by a parent. Candy will be for construction, not consumption.
On Saturday, Dec. 14th @ 8AM you can register for the Winter Session of Lawrence Special Activities! Classes begin in Mid-January. Registration goes from 12/14-1/5 @ 6PM. As always, classes fill on a first-come first-served basis. Here is the Catalog. Please note: Parents of Kindergarteners who are not in LEDP MUST make their own arrangements to get their children to and from their LSA classes. Kindergarten teachers cannot release them without an escort, and LSA does not have staff to help with this. Questions or comments? email firstname.lastname@example.org.
And as the end of 2019 approaches, many of you might think of how to say thank you to your teachers or other specialists who have meant a lot to your child. There are giving guidelines determined by the Brookline Public Schools which your room parents will most likely explain. But here is a LINK as well.
This time of year might coincide with some thoughtful gift-giving as well… and if it does, just a friendly reminder from the Green Team: Did you know that typical gift wrap cannot usually be recycled? As the holiday season approaches, check out these links for more info and ideas for eco-friendly wrapping! Check out The Clean Collective, some ideas from Pinterest and info from Earth911. Also, here’s a little article on Sustainable Holiday Shopping. And if you want to bypass the material goods thing all together, think about donating somewhere in honor of someone, or buying carbon offsets. Just a little food for thought…
And while many of you might be hunkering down for winter… a Lawrence parent is out training for the Boston Marathon! Lawrence parent Bob Neer (Marco grade 6 & Sophia grade 4) will run the Boston Marathon this spring with Team Brookline to raise money for the Brookline Education Foundation (BEF), which supports our public schools. Lawrence parent Fergus O’Donoghue, a BEF board member, put him up to it! Please support Bob and our public schools by clicking HERE to make a fully tax deductible donation. We really appreciate your support! Bob Neer 617-513-5235 email@example.com
The Makerspace is still in need of Paper Towel and Toilet Paper Tubes. Collect them at home and then drop them in the Makerspace collection box in the lobby!
Remember to sign up with Membership Toolkit if you haven’t already. It gives you access to all things Lawrence-related like PTO emails, being able to contact a parent you met in your child’s class, signing up to volunteer for a wicked awesome event. Sign up so you don’t miss important news about what’s happening at Lawrence! More detailed information is available HERE. Any questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org OR email@example.com
Until next time, have a great rest of your week and thanks for all you do!
