Family Fun Run was a great success on Sunday. Thanks to all the volunteers guarding street intersections and bounce houses, helping with registration and t-shirt pickup and for the food donations, and to the Brookline Police Department. A special thanks to Keith Carson for organizing this extraordinary event once again. And finally, thanks to all the participants who ran and donated. You really outpaced yourself this year in that refreshing rain. See you next year!
NEWS AND NOTES
Spring Picnic This Thursday
This week is the spring picnic on Thursday June 9th at 6pm. Come and join us. Pack a picnic or purchase pizza. Join the cake walk and win a cake for dessert! The Lawrence Green Team will be there with a special recycling event. Read below for more info. The Lawrence Latin Community Group (LLCG) will have flan and lots of treats. Visit the Set-J table for Rice balls, ice pops and yo-yo games.
Volunteer to help with the picnic. Bake or Buy Cakes and other baked goods for the cake walk are urgently needed. Please visit http://lawrencepto.ivolunteer.com/springpicnic_2016.
Calling all frayed toothbrushes, used up lipstick, and dried out markers! Recycle them at the Spring Picnic!
The Green Team has signed up with Terracycle’s mail-in recycle programs for beauty products and oral care items. Items to bring include bottles, caps, tubes, jars, etc. for cosmetics and skin care products, toothbrushes, floss containers, toothpaste tubes and caps, and deodorant tubes and caps. Please empty each container.
We have also signed up with the Crayola Colorcycle marker recycling program and will have a marker collection box at the Spring Picnic. Markers can be any brand, and highlighters and dry erase markers are included.
Final PTO Meeting This Tuesday
All are welcome to attend Lawrence PTO meeting featuring Anu Advani (math specialist) who will speak about her trip to India, including her efforts to send books to the Mahalaxmi Mumbai Public School. Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 8:00 am in the Lawrence school library.
School Field Day This Friday
Please consider joining the fun and helping out at our annual Field Day on Friday, June 10. K-3 8:30am-10:00am, Gr. 4-7 10:30am-12:15pm.

Farewell to Mr. Rogers
Please join us on Thursday, June 9 at 5:00 pm for a reception to celebrate Mr. Rogers and his eight years as principal of Lawrence School. We will gather in the large gym, rain or shine, before the Spring Picnic.
As a part of our celebration, we plan to present Mr. Rogers with a scrapbook, created in his honor by Lawrence families near and far. Your family is invited to contribute to the scrapbook by decorating a page. Feel free to use photos, drawings, words, or any combination of the three, to share with Mr. Rogers your memories and your well wishes for his retirement.
Upcoming Community Meetings about the 9th Elementary School and BHS Renovation and Expansion
9th Elementary School: Updates on the 9th school are scheduled for June 7 and June 14. All are welcome to attend these meetings for a presentation on the current timeline for site selection and construction and a review of the three sites being studied this spring and summer..
- June 7, Joint School Committee/Board of Selectmen meeting at Town Hall in the Selectmanís Hearing Room at 8:00 p.m.
- June 14 in the School Committee Room on the 5th floor of Town Hall at 7:00 p.m. Jonathan Levi Architects (JLA), the architectural firm doing the 9th school Site Selection Study will update the public on the work they will be doing and will gather community input on the three sites being studied this spring/summer.
Brookline High School Expansion and Renovation:
The BHS Expansion Working Group will hold a public meeting to update and inform the community about the anticipated BHS expansion and renovation as PSB prepares for the rapid increase in high school enrollment in the coming years. The Working Group will share the current timeline and process, and community members will have a chance to provide input on potential options. The meeting will be at Brookline High School on June 13th at 7:00 p.m.
PSB Staff email addresses are changing
On June 8th, the email addresses of all employees of the Public Schools of Brookline will change. New email addresses will be email@example.com. For example if your childís teacher is Jane Doe, then her new email address will be firstname.lastname@example.org. For all teachers and staff members, the part of the email address before the @ symbol remains the same. The existing brookline.k12.ma.us email addresses will continue to work and get to our staff through the summer and into next school year, so our staff will not miss any emails that you send to them. We are changing email systems because our currently existing system is no longer reliable and has suffered a number of outages this year.
End-of-the-School-Year Lawrence Logowear Sale, June 8-10
The final sale of Lawrence Logowear this school year will be from June 8 to 10 in the front lobby before and after school. Come get your shirts, caps, and other goodies before they are all gone! T-shirt ($20; adult sizes only remaining), Long-sleeve thermal tee ($28), Zip-up hoodie sweatshirt ($40), Sweatpants ($28), Baseball cap ($20), Carabineer, ($3), Sport necklace ($10), and Water bottles ($8). All proceeds go to the Lawrence PTO.
Library Book Reminder
We hope you have enjoyed the books borrowed from the Lawrence Library this year– we have circulated around 30,000 books to students and teachers! Sadly, now it’s time to return library books for the summer.
All Lawrence School library books were due back by June 3. Please help your child(ren) to return their books so that our inventory will be able to proceed on time.

Run A Mile Together With Us!
The Village Fair Road Mile is a one-mile race planned collaboratively by the Brookline Extended Day Advisory Council and the Town of Brookline. The race will take place in the afternoon on June 12th, 2016 as part of The Village Fair, a large street festival in Brookline Village. Proceeds will be donated to support after school programming for low-income and at-risk elementary school children in Brookline. The 20th Annual Public Health Policy Forum will be held at on Wednesday evening, June 22, 2016 6:00pm at Brookline Senior Center, 93 Winchester Street. No registration is required.

Brookline Warriors Summer Basketball Clinic Applications are still being accepted. The Clinic will run June 27-30 (Monday-Thursday) from 9:00-3:00 in Schluntz Gymnasium at the high school. Boys ages 8-14 are eligible. Brookline HS head coach Luke Day is the Clinic director, and the staff includes BHS JV coach Dave Ford and Freshman coach Darren Martinez. The Brookline Warriors Summer Basketball Clinic is committed to delivering high quality instruction on individual and team basketball skills. Campers will not only improve on a day-to-day basis, but will take away from the camp specific knowledge about how they can keep improving. We are just as importantly committed to every camper having fun and developing a lifelong passion for the game of basketball. ASA Hoops is hosting it’s 19th consecutive summer camp series in Newton, June 27th – August 19th. Our camps are for boys and girls ages 7-17 and operate Monday – Friday. Brookline SmartSummers: Brookline SmartSummers 2016 is a summer enrichment program for children ages 5 through 13. Open to Brookline residents and non-residents, we offer a wide variety of educational programs that meet from one to eight weeks. In addition to having lots of fun, children will enjoy indoor and outdoor activities and learn new skills.
