SET-J (Sending Educators To Japan) Welcome back, Ms. Gannon and Ms. Russel!
Our SET-J program grant recipient Ms. Gannon, and BEF (Brookline Education Foundation) grant recipient, Ms. Russel came back safely from a 10 day trip to Japan during the summer! We believe both of them had great experiences and have shared those on their wonderful blogs. Please visit and

Also, congratulations to our literacy specialist, Ms. Terry Jewell! She will visit Japan next June (2016). The Sending Educators To Japan program, which is funded by the PTO, has been sending Lawrence teachers to Japan since 2002. Participants are able to observe the Japanese educational system in various settings and experience Japanese culture firsthand. Upon returning, they share their experiences and discoveries with the Lawrence community, giving us a glimpse into another society as well. Click here to learn more about SET-J.

For families new to Lawrence from Japan, we have a monthly Japanese Newsletter. The next issue will be distributed early in October. If you would like to see last year’s newsletter, please click here.

Room Parents are Still Needed! Thank you to all the Room Parents who have stepped up to serve as liaisons between the teacher, the PTO and other classroom parents. If your class is still undecided, please consider it yourself. It’s a fun and easy way to get to know your child’s teacher and meet other families in your class, and help share information from the PTO to your classroom. If you are interested, please contact one of our Room Parent Coordinators (Charlotte Rice and Maureen Fallon) who can help you get started.

Something to share? If you have an item you’d like considered for inclusion in the Monday Update, please submit information to our PTO email. The weekly deadline is Thursday at 12:00 noon, for the following week.
