Do teens consume too much unhealthy food? What is considered unhealthy? Do our schools and community promote nutritional choices?
Dr. Eric Rimm will discuss teen nutrition and key findings of a recent survey of Brookline High teen soda and purchased drink consumption. Dr. Rimm is a Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition and the Director of the Program in Cardiovascular Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health and also a Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School. His research includes effective interventions for schoolchildren, adults and the food insecure. He was awarded the 2012 American Society for Nutrition General Mills Institute of Health and Nutrition Innovation Award.
The Brookline High School Food Justice Committee works to educate our community and support the Brookline Food Pantry, and aims to build a Food and Sustainability Program at Brookline High School.
Join Lawrence's New Family Welcome by being a first point of contact to families new to Lawrence. The welcome team is in search of 1 or 2 more members to help with school tours, showing new families around the school and answering any questions they may have. Tours currently occur one Tuesday per month at 8:15 (after drop-off) and one Thursday at 1:40 (before pick-up), so anyone who can commit to two or three of those per semester would be a big help! The welcome team would appreciate any help, but is seeking a middle school parent/caregiver, in particular, to add to the range of experience available to new families. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved.
