Women Who Inspire Us

Women Who Inspire Us

Congratulations to sixth grade student Sophie Ferdinand, whose essay was selected for Sixth Grade – Second Place in the annual “Women Who Inspire Us” essay contest sponsored by the Brookline Commission for Women. To make this selection even more special, Sophie wrote a moving tribute to her mother, Lawrence Kindergarten teacher Dominique Ferdinand.

Each year, the Brookline Commission for Women sponsor an event to recognize the essay contest winners and Brookline’s “Woman of the Year.” During the ceremony the top three essays from each grade level (Gr. 5-8) are read aloud and the women who are the subjects of the essays are recognized.  Sophie read her essay with poise and confidence, while her mother, father, sister and grandmother proudly looked on.  It was an inspiring evening for all involved – doubly so for Lawrence School!

Kudos to English teacher Peggy Avakian, who each year has her sixth grade students participate in this writing contest
