Superintendent’s Open Forum

Superintendent’s Open Forum @ Lawrence
Monday, March 16, 2015
8:00-9:00 am – Library

Each year, Superintendent Bill Lupini comes to Lawrence to speak with parents and engage in an open question and answer discussion.  This year’s forum will provide an opportunity in a smaller setting to hear about next year’s school budget – with and without on override.  Dr. Lupini will have just presented his annual budget message to the Brookline School Committee on March 12.   As is explained on the Town of Brookline’s website, “The Board of Selectmen voted to place two Questions on the May 5, 2015 Annual Town Election ballot seeking an override of the Proposition 2½ tax levy limit. The first question seeks to permanently increase the Town’s tax levy limit by $7,665,000 in order to fund the costs associated with increasing school enrollment (should the ballot measure fail, the municipal budget will be reduced by $682,000.)  The second question seeks a temporary tax levy increase to fund a portion of the costs necessary to replace/expand the Devotion School.”

While this year’s budget may be of particular interest, the forum is not limited to budget.  You are welcome to engage him in conversation on any topic related to teaching and learning in Brookline.   Dr. Lupini is also president of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents and is very well versed on educational matters at the state level.
