NEWS AND NOTES

Tonight is the the annual PTO Phonathon. Parent volunteers will call Lawrence families to ask for a contribution to the PTO. These donations are essential to the PTO’s ability to fund programs and services that benefit every child in our school. The funds enable us to underwrite creative teacher-initiated projects and support teacher needs, to provide valuable enrichment programs, and to strengthen and celebrate the Lawrence community. The Phonathon is our biggest fundraiser of the year, so please give as generously as you can. No amount is too small (or too large), as we strive for goals of 100% family participation and $30,000. We’ve already collected almost one third of that total thanks to early donations. Join the early birds by sending your contribution by check (made out to the Lawrence PTO) or donate now through PayPal. Thank you!

Seussical, a musical based on the zany, beloved characters created by Dr. Seuss, will be performed this week by the Grade 6-8 Drama Team. Led by Katie McNamara, performances are Wednesday, December 11 at 9:00 a.m. and Thursday, December 12 at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Come build the (Gingerbread) House Of Your Dreams this Friday after school in the cafeteria! A $5 donation will get you bricks (graham crackers), mortar (frosting) and piles and piles of delicious and decorative embellishments. Sponsored and supervised by Lawrence’s class of 2014, proceeds will provide scholarships for the annual 8th grade New York City trip. All students are welcome but students in K-2 need to come with a parent or guardian. Parent volunteers are also needed to help supervise builders – if interested, please contact us by email.

Makeeba McCreary and her team of volunteers, including 8th grade chaperones, kept track of almost 200 young movie fans last Wednesday as they enjoyed the after-school movie, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Makeeba also spearheaded the new online registration process which vastly improved our ability to keep track of all those kids! Thanks Makeeba!

Kudos also to Kathryn Brown and Emily Tevald who organized last week’s Staff Appreciation Luncheon. More than 100 teachers and staff members were treated to a fabulous Italian feast (complete with a swanky sound track). From Mr. Rogers: “The staff room was beautifully decorated and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was plentiful and delicious – from the choice of entrees to the plethora of tempting sweets. Smiles and sighs of contentment were heard throughout the school!” Thanks also to the many parents who provided food and desserts.

With the holidays upon us, the Lawrence Green Team has put together a very informative Green Gift Guide. Check it out here.
