Registration forms for the 3rd Annual Lawrence Fun Run And 5K Walk/Run were sent home last week and are available in the front office. This year’s run will be held Sunday, June 8 in the Lawrence School Yard. At 9:00 a.m. is a one-mile fun-run/walk (five laps around the Lawrence track) where all are welcome. At 9:30 a.m. is the 5K fun-run/walk (Lawrence track, Muddy River, back to track). Parental supervision is required for kids in grades three or below for the 5K. The registration fee is $20 for either race (make checks out to Lawrence PTO) and includes a Fun Run T-shirt, music and entry into a raffle of prizes from local retailers. Registrations will be accepted until 9am on race day, but t-shirts cannot be guaranteed for any registration received after Friday, May 23.  Contact Keith Carson or Maureen Fallon if you have questions for would like to help run the Run!

Also due by this Friday, May 23, are order forms for the Summer Reading Program. As part of this program, students entering grades 2 and up are required to read a specific book title before they enter school in the fall. Teachers will discuss these books as part of the fall curriculum. The program also includes a recommended book for students entering first grade, but it is not a “required” book.

These books can be found at local libraries and bookstores, but if parents wish to do so, they may pre-order them using the forms sent home last week. ( Extra forms are available in the library.) The Brookline Booksmith donates a percentage of each pre-ordered book to the PTO to help pay for children’s programs here at Lawrence. Books will be delivered to children in their classrooms on or before Monday, June 16. Please contact librarian Kathy Moriarty with questions.

Order your Lawrence Yearbook today! Two different versions will be available: the “All-School Yearbook”, with 52 color pages including all K-7 class photos as well as collages, priced at $16, and the “Graduates Edition,” which includes all of the K-7 book plus an expanded 8th grade section, priced at $26. Yearbook covers were designed by two talented 8th graders: Sophie Morganstern designed the K-7 cover and Elaine Chen designed the 8th grade cover. Order online before May 31. Late orders will not be accepted because of production costs and schedule.

COMING UP

The PTO’s Staff Appreciation Lunch is coming on Friday, May 30. Please click here to see how you can help make this a truly special event for our very deserving teachers and staff! For questions please contact organizers Emily Tevald or Kathryn Brown.

The Spring Picnic is Thursday, June 12. Just before the picnic we’ll say goodbye to retiring staff members, Amy Nevis, Special Education Team Leader and Pam Charpentier, Grade 6/7 Social Studies teacher. Both of these Lawrence veterans will be sorely missed. Please join us in saying thanks and goodbye at their retirement party and contact us by email if you would like to help plan the party or share any memories, mementos or photos on that day.

A reminder about an easy way to help the PTO fund Lawrence programs.  Although we encourage you to shop local Brookline businesses first, if you do make purchases from Amazon, please bookmark and use this link. Amazon donates four percent of every Lawrence purchase back to the school. No extra cost to you, just extra funds for the PTO that we use for the programs our kids enjoy and benefit from.

We need your help! The PTO is looking to fill two important positions: Treasurer and Secretary. The Treasurer tracks all incoming and outgoing funds in the PTO budget, working closely with the principal, teachers and other PTO officers. It’s an important and rewarding job. The Secretary attends all PTO meetings, takes notes and distributes them as needed. For more information please contact Pamela Iguchi or Florrie Ives. Look for information on many volunteer positions for next year (both big and small) at our Volunteer Booth at the Spring Picnic!
