NEWS AND NOTES
K.I.D.S. (Kids Involved During Summer) Camp Fair is this Sunday, January 12 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Brookline High School’s Tappan Street Gym. Sponsored by Steps to Success, the Fair will include booths showcasing some of the best camps in the area including overnight, day, local and out-of-state camps covering topics such as sports, education, adventure, music, art and much more! BRRR, it’s cold outside! During the Coats for Kids Coats Drive, in conjunction with local Anton’s Cleaners, LEDP is collecting gently used winter coats for kids now through next Tuesday, January 14. Please bring in your gently used, good quality warm winter coats to the Drop Box outside of the LEDP room in the basement. Especially needed are XL and pre-K sizes. Not accepted are spring coats, vests and sweatshirts. Thanks for helping to keep a child warm this winter!
If you need more space on your bookshelf after the holidays, the Used Book Collection is ongoing until our big sale in May. Just drop your bagged or boxed up books into the little green wagon located in the lobby, or, if you have a big load of books, we are happy to collect them from your home. Please email Pamela Iguchi if you’d like to take advantage of that service, or if you’d like to help sort books through the winter.
Kindergarten registration for Brookline children entering kindergarten in September of 2014 will begin in February at each elementary school. Starting January 27, registration forms will be available in the elementary school offices and on the Public Schools of Brookline website. Registration here at Lawrence School will be held on both Tuesday, February 4 and Wednesday February 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. each day. Please do not bring your child to school on those days. Children will visit the school on another date later this spring.
In addition to the registration form, parents will be asked to provide the following documents:
- Original birth certificate
- Passport, if the child was not born in the United States
- Immunization record
- Proof of Brookline residency – deed or lease for the property where you are residing in Brookline, along with a utility bill.
Children must be five years of age on or before August 31, 2014 to be eligible for kindergarten. School assignment is based on your home address. Some street addresses may fall within a buffer zone. School assignments for families residing within a buffer zone are made by the Superintendent, based on enrollments. Families may state a preference for one of the schools in their buffer zone. The Superintendent will do all he can to honor these requests. During this registration period, you may visit either school in your buffer zone to drop off registration forms.
Family Fun Night, including the new International Expo, is Friday, February 7! Here’s another Family Fun Night Limerick:
A bounty of plastic card cash
How to spend them without being rash?
No need for a fuss
Give them to us
For the FFN raffle prize stash!
FFN is looking for gift cards that can be used for the FFN raffle. If you find yourself with a gift card that you would like to donate, please put it in an envelope labeled FFN in the PTO mailbox located in the school office.
Share your country’s culture with the Lawrence Community! Sign up to sponsor a table at Family Fun Night’s new International Expo: an exciting place where FFN and International Night meet! We are seeking representatives from any country to host table exhibits that teach us about your culture (language, geography, history, famous people, clothing, traditions — the sky’s the limit). We hope to have exhibits from many countries and cultures, and need you to make it happen. If you are interested in participating, please follow this link and complete the short questionnaire (just five questions). Thanks!
Unless you opted out, the Lawrence School Directory will be distributed this week via your oldest child’s classroom. Please remember that the School Directory and any other source of information coming from the school such as Class Contact Lists are NOT to be used for commercial purposes.
