This week’s Vice-Principal’s Corner: Anti-Bullying and the Olweus Program.
NEWS AND NOTES
The PTO is profoundly grateful to Katherine Ingraham and her merry band of phonathon callers, who pulled off a successful phonathon last week. In case you still need to send in your pledge, missed the call or have had a change of heart and would like to contribute, you can drop off checks (made out to the Lawrence PTO) in the front office, mail them to the PTO at 27 Francis Street, Brookline 02446, or donate now through PayPal. Thank you again!
Congratulations to the cast, crew and directors (Katie McNamara and True Burley) of the Gr. 6-8 Drama production of Seussical. The play was highly entertaining. Great job!
Dramatic opportunities for students and parents abound at Lawrence. The major spring productions have begun to assemble:
First up is the town-famous PTO Play. Every year parents and teachers put on an original musical for the benefit of the school community. The rehearsal period begins in January, with peformances scheduled for mid-March. As always, we are looking for help. This year have an especially urgent need for an assistant director and as ever we need parents who can act and/or sing as well as help “behind the scenes” with props, sets, and costumes. This longstanding Lawrence school tradition is a fun and rewarding way to get involved in the school and launch your new career!
If you are interested in participating or if you have any questions, please contact Dennis Doughty. Thanks!
Second, Drama in the Afternoon returns again this year with a program for students in Grades 3-5. Students are invited to participate in a lively, humorous and suspenseful musical production called Jack (or Jackie) and the Beanstalk. (We haven’t yet decided whether it will be Jack or Jackie.) No special talents required! The fun begins on Tuesday, January 21. Directed by Beth Bankler and Leslie Prizer, rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:40- 4:15 (times will be adjusted for early release days and so forth). The anticipated date for the performances (morning and evening) is May 1. Come climb up the beanstalk for a musical adventure you’ll not soon forget!
Cost for the program is $200. Registration forms and further information will be sent home following winter break. We are looking forward to another exciting event!
Family Fun Night, including the new International Expo, is coming up Friday, February 7.

Of having to go to the store!
Family Fun Night is looking for gift cards that can be used for the FFN raffle. If you find yourself with a gift card that you would like to donate, please put it in an envelope labeled FFN in the PTO mailbox located in the school office.
Share your country’s culture with the Lawrence Community! Sign up to sponsor a table at Family Fun Night’s new International Expo: an exciting place where FFN and International Night meet! We are seeking representatives from any country to host table exhibits that teach us about your culture (language, geography, history, famous people, clothing, traditions — the sky’s the limit). We hope to have exhibits from many countries and cultures, and need you to make it happen. If you are interested in participating, please follow this link and complete the short questionnaire (just five questions). Thanks!
