NEWS AND NOTES

Thanks to everyone who showed up for our Fall Picnic on Thursday — it turned into a beautiful evening despite a few threatening clouds. Thanks especially to the many volunteers who sold pizza and cookies, to SET-J for the delicious rice balls and sorbet, the Green Team for manning the water station and all those who helped set up and clean up.

The PTO was delighted to host an informational table about the Richi Foundation at the picnic as well. The Richi Foundation was established in 2013 by a Lawrence family whose son, Ricard “Richi” was diagnosed with cancer. One of the foundation’s primary goals is to raise money to create a place where kids with cancer and survivors of childhood cancer and their families can go for fun and support. If you missed the opportunity to visit the Richi Foundation table at the picnic and would like to learn more please visit their website.

Class Open Houses are opportunities to meet teachers and hear what’s planned for the school year. They take place this week and next. Child care will be provided on September 18 and 23 only: $5 per child ($10 family maximum), no children under 3.

Classes ranging from tennis to chess to woodworking — and much more! — are available after school in three sessions through the year. Take a look at the catalog online here. Students will receive a confirmation of the schedule next week and classes will begin on Monday, September 29.

Please return the Back-to-School Paperwork & Handbook Notification Sign-Off. Forms were sent home last week and must be filled out for each child. The Lawrence School Handbook is available for download, or you may pick up a printed copy in the office. Please review it with your child, especially the Student Behavior Guidelines (pp. 9-16).

TWO EASY WAYS TO SUPPORT THE PTO

The PTO budget is supported by numerous fundraising efforts throughout the year. Two easy ways are arrangements with retailers, who donate back a portion of all money spent by Lawrence families. The first is the Stop & Shop A+ Rewards Program. If you have a Stop & Shop loyalty card, you can register it to Lawrence; thereafter, every purchase sends a few dollars our way. Last year we received more than $400 via the program. To sign up, click here to register your card. (Note that the A+ Rewards are above and beyond other points programs, so you still earn your points for gas and other rewards.)

We have a similar arrangement with Amazon. We encourage you to shop local whenever possible, but if you can’t find it in town and you go to Amazon, please use this link. Bookmark that link and Amazon will send the PTO four percent of every purchase. That can really add up, and all you have to do is click your purchase through a specific program link. No extra cost to you, just extra funds for the PTO.

LOOKING AHEAD

If you have an item you’d like considered for inclusion in the Monday Update, please submit information to our PTO email.  The weekly deadline is Thursday at 12:00 noon, for the following week. Thanks!
