Principal’s Corner

Hello Lawrence Families + Caregivers-

I hope this finds you well!  I had a good weekend with my family, we got the chance to see one of Lawrence’s very own, Vanessa Trien + the Jumping Monkeys at Kids Really Rock at Lawn on D.  It was a glorious day and the music and dancing were on point!

I am writing to share some logistics with you regarding our Middle School Open House this week.

Open House for our middle school grades (6-8) is this Thursday, October 5th from 6:15 – 8 pm.

Grades 7 + 8:

6:15 – 6:25 – Meet and greet in classrooms.

6:25 – 6:40 – Middle School overview for grades 7 + 8.  The grade levels will be separated into two groups 311 + 312 (7th grade) and 8th 2 groups in grade 308 + two groups in 213.

Grade 6:

6:15 – 6:40 – 6th grade will run advisories in their respective classrooms.

6:40 – 7:50 – All grades (6-8):

There will be multiple blocks during this 50 minutes block in which teachers will travel to different rooms to share information about their coursework and classroom structure.  The final block will end at 7:50 and each teacher will close out the night with the group they have last.

*Please note:  Additional staff who support our middle school students will have tables set up in the hallway so that you can make connections with them during the first section of the evening.  This includes special education staff, specialists, etc.

Rationale:  In thinking about transition times and physically navigating our school, we have decided to have our teachers move for the rotations instead of having parents + caregivers move from class to class.  Please take advantage of our opening block of time from 6:15 – 6:40 to visit your child’s classrooms and make connections with their teachers.  In depth, student specific conversations are best to be scheduled for a different time (not during Open House) with your child’s teachers.

Childcare –There will childcare in the Cafeteria and Big Gym for those families who are interested. We will have students who are trained babysitters and staff to supervise as well.  Families pay $5 per child (no more than $15 per family for the evening).  There will be games, arts + crafts and a PG movie playing.  Families are expected to pick up their child/children by 7:50 pm in the cafeteria.  Karen Miller and Laura Horst are the point people for childcare; please connect with them directly if you have any questions.

Reminders:

  • Wednesday, October 4th is picture day!  Connect with Rachel Sater from PTO if you have any questions —- rsater@gmail.com
  • Monday, October 9th there is no school in observance of Columbus Day.
