Food Day Festival Committee
The Food Day Festival Committee is a group of parents interested in food, science and sustainability at the public K-8 Lawrence school in Brookline. Every year we hold the Lawrence Food Day Festival. This year, the Food Day Festival takes place on a Thursday, October 19th which is close to National Food Day (October 24th). Each year we choose a theme that highlights sustainability and local agriculture. In 2016, we hosted more than 500 people to the event, and it’s a great way to bring the Lawrence community together at the beginning of the year.
This highly successful event raises food awareness among hundreds of students, families, teachers and school administrators. Kids get to try new fruits and vegetables, participate in and judge a recipe contest, and learn lots about the food they eat and where it comes from.
There is also a recipe contest where Lawrence students make a savory, plant-based dish. All the festival goers vote on which dishes are tastiest, and the winners get prizes donated by our local businesses.
The event itself normally runs from 5:30-7:30pm.
